It's almost elections day!

Are you registered to vote?

Do you know your voting location?

Do not, I repeat, do not just stop at the closest place with a voting sign up. Look at your voters registration card you received in the mail for your voting location address. If you don't have one, go online to your county website and find out where your voting location is.

Doing so will save you and everyone else alot of time, money, and gas

ps. If you don't vote, don't complain about the outcome.

Gwinnett Election Results

Shirley Fanning-Lasseter, former Duluth mayor, received 41.95 percent of the 6,465 votes cast, but it was not the majority needed to win.

At press time, it was still undetermined who her opponent would be in an Aug. 5 runoff, either jewelry store owner and current Gwinnett County representative on the MARTA board, Bruce LeVell (29.16 percent) or former Suwanee city councilmember Carol Hassell

Lasseter still has a little more campaigning to do in order to win the seat vacated by incumbent Lorraine Green.Whoever wins the runoff will gain the seat as they will run unopposed.


Bannister and Green will also be headed for a runoff. But unlike the other race, they will face opposition in November against Democrat Vincent Passariello, who ran unopposed in his primary on Tuesday.

Lawrenceville Mayor hits the Jackpot!

You know, I wouldn't peg a mayor as a lottery player... But then I'm not a lottery player... maybe I should reconsider. Anyway, our Mayor just (Rex A. Millsaps) won the lottery.

According to a Wednesday news release from the Georgia Lottery, Lawrenceville Mayor Rex Millsaps won $250,000 in Friday's Mega Millions drawing. He matched 5 of 6 winning numbers for the second largest prize behind the jackpot.

Gwinnett to Vote on King Holiday

I didn't realize this was an issue. Being raised in the north where King day always was, I just had no idea that it wasn't universal. Our city is still undecided. I really don't know how I feel about it.

The last three holdouts in Gwinnett County will decide this month whether to recognize the King Day holiday in January and close their city halls.

The city of Lawrenceville will vote Monday night on whether to recognize the holiday. Lilburn and Grayson officials have said they will discuss the idea at meetings this month.

Prayin Fer Water

It seems our little state made it into mainstream news today. The ladies of the View spent 5 minutes discussing the prayer meeting our Governor facilitated yesterday at the capital.

Apparently some people think that it is senseless and useless to pray for rain, and violates the separation of church and state.

Ummm does anyone know of a better way to make it rain?

Gwinnett County 2008 Budget Proposal is in

The proposed operating budget of our county is $860 million, is up 5.5 percent from last year, and is asking for less new positions than was requested last year.

Hiring is proposed for Fire and Emergency services, the Gwinnett Police, and the Emergency 911 call center. More water resources personell and a new 10th Circuit Superior judge is is also on the list of proposed hires for 2008.

Lawrenceville GA's Mayor: Rex Millsaps

Rex A. Millsaps, a Lawrenceville resident since 1964, is the owner of Millsaps & Company, P.C., a local public accounting firm. Rex graduated from Central Gwinnett High School in 1969 and Georgia State University in 1977. Rex served in the Georgia House of Representatives 1983 & 1984 and the Gwinnett County Merit System Board 1995 - 2006 (Chairman 2001 - 2006). He is a former member of the Gwinnett County Board of Elections and the Lawrenceville Planning and Zoning Board. Rex's primary focus is to clean up our neighborhoods and make them a safe place to raise our families.

After his election as Mayor on November 7, 2006, Rex was appointed by the Lawrenceville City Council to fill the unexpired term of Mayor Bobby Sikes on November 13, 2006.
