Lawrenceville residents shafted out of 20,000 jobs

"CONGRATULATIONS LAWRENCEVILLE ~ the Mayor & City Council UNANIMOUSLY opposes the Briscoe Airport Expansion!! Stay tuned for more opposition through out the year!! Both Channel 2 and Fox 5 were there to cover the story. We are the County Seat and deserve Better!" ~Rodney Camren on Facebook
Congratulations?!? Seriously?

So you don't think that business travelers being able to come DIRECTLY to Gwinnett will help Lawrenceville?

The Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce has opened a new office in China, new manufacturing businesses are being attracted to Gwinnett County/Lawrenceville, but they're going to have the hassle of going to Atlanta-Hartsfield and then hop onto a corporate jet every time they want to visit the area or check their operations.

This is hurtful to business growth. Why do you think it would be a good thing to make it more difficult for business travelers to come here? Our transportation systems should be expanded, not shrunk. Transportation isn't good enough as it is.

If you privatize/expand Briscoe Air Field, they will come, and not just Chinese businesses. It's estimated that Lawrenceville residents have been shafted out of a possible 20,000 jobs that would have come to the area with the airport expansion.

I'm sorry for the some of the homeowners who would have to deal with this, but I think the value of their property would be balance out by the growth to the area.

I'm surprised that the Mayor and the City Council would oppose this. Oh, it's so they can get re-elected of course. They don't want any homeowners (ie voters) mad at them. This is a problem with our government officials, they work for the vote rather than what is right for the long-term growth of the area they represent.

Why would Rodney Camren want to upset homeowners? He's a real estate agent, that's his bread and butter. Oh, no conflict of interest there, right?

When people ring the door bell

When I first moved to Lawrenceville, I had no problem with people ringing my door bell. If they were selling something reasonable, I would buy it. If they looked hungry or thirsty (I am a mom, I know when someone is hungry or thirsty) I would offer them food or drink.

But a few years have passed, I have dealt with scammers and product that were not what they seemed to be, and too many too pushy evangelist have show up on my doorstep.

I'm looking for a tasteful, "no soliciting" sign for my door.

What turned my into such a scrooge? I think the last straw was when a JW group rang my door bell and my 13 year old opened the door because he know they were just evangelizing. (Even though he has had instruction not to open the door for strangers). With little introduction, they start reading scriptures from revelations to him. My daughter bursted into the bathroom where I was showering to let me know, and so in my towel, I went down the hall to where I could see them (but they could not see me) and told my kid to shut the door.

Well, I got dressed, and when out to talk to people who were absolutely unapologetic for talking to a 13 year old boy without a parents permission. They said no solicitation signs posted all over the neighborhood means nothing to them either, and they were right, I check with the police and they don't have to obey them. I sure they decided I was condemned to hell, but unlike Rick Badie who feels that you should always be polite when someone rings your doorbell, I say there are too many crazy people out there to assume that anyone who rings your doorbell (especially if they try to interract with your kid) has good intentions.

So now, I would just as soon not have anyone ring my door bell. If you are an innocent kid selling me cookie mix... sorry.

Teen Driving Deaths

A sixteen year old was killed last night in a car crash. The crash was a result of teen racing.

Yesterday a young lady at church was crying because her friend had died the previous week in a car accident.

On Oct 14, a man was killed in a wreck cause by racing drivers.

My own son will be driving in just 2 years. I want him to understand that driving is not something done for fun. It is a necessity and a privilege. Cars are potentially dangerous machines that should not be used to play kids games either.

But making him responsible is not enough. He has to not only drive for himself, but for everyone around him. Just because he is following the rules, and I assume he will, does not mean that is friends and peers will.

We lose so many young people each year due to car crashes. Something must be done to stop this trend.

Flights from Lawerenceville to Hartsfield-Jackson Airport

Tasgola Bruner asked earlier this month the following question:

"Will you fly Wings (airlines) out of Lawrenceville?"

My first thought was Heck yes... where is it going?

It's going to the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport... oh... probably not. For me to drive the 15 minutes it would take me to get to the Lawrenceville Airport, get parked, and boarded and wait for flight time. Even assuming the flight takes off on time, and all is efficient, I would far exceed the time and cost it would take me to drive the 45 minutes to the airport.

Now if the airlines starts making flights to say... New York, Florida, Richmond VA... let me know... I'm in!
