New Favorite Chinese Restaurant

In the wake of Big Joy II closing, I feel the need to tell you my second favorite chinese Restaurant... The name of the place is China Gate. Their Dumplings are superior, even better than Big Joy II, the rest of the food is around the same quality.

It is on the corner of 120 and Satellite Blvd toward Duluth, in front of the McDonalds, and near Subway... across the street from BP.

Best Chinese in Lawrenceville... Closed

Big Joy on 120 by Hobby Lobby has closed... I'm so depressed.

Waffle House Robberies

I realize this may sound sacrilegious to people in GA but in the 8 years that I have lived here, I have never set foot inside of a waffle house. Why? Because it seems that waffle house is a regular target for robbers. I don't want to be there when it happens.

Here is a story on nationwide Waffle House Robberies: Investigators with the Gwinnett County Police Department are investigating a rash of armed robberies that have involved several Waffle Houses throughout the county. Investigators also believe that the suspect may be responsible for additional armed robberies outside the county.

TASTE OF GWINNETT: Big Joy II fills craving for Chinese at lunch

Big Joy II's location near Gwinnett Medical Center, the county courthouse and other large employers draws the noontime crowd. The Lawrenceville Chinese restaurant, owned by Michael Chiang, has been open in the corner of a strip shopping center off Duluth Highway since 1993.

New Bar... erm... Tavern in Lawrenceville

McCray's Tavern has opened in downtown Lawrenceville. They serve 39 beers and look like a bar... but since Lawrenceville has no bar ordinance, it is a tavern. To be legal in Lawrenceville, the establishment must sell more food than alcohol.

New Restaurant, Jackson Hole gets rave reviews

My son has been waiting for this place to open... since his name matches the name of the Restaurant. According to this review, we are going to enjoy it. I'll let you know.

The newest contender in the area's beef battle is Jackson Hole Burgers. The
8-ounce Premium Gold Angus Beef patties are sizable competition for popular
joints like Five Guys Famous Burgers and Fries and Steak 'n Shake. They're just
down the street from Jackson Hole, in Lawrenceville's Village Shoppes at
Creekside at the corner of Duluth Highway and Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road.

If you are looking for "SCOOPS", don't despair

The sign from Scoops Fill Up Station at what appears to be an old gas station in downtown Lawrenceville is gone, and has been replaced by a new name. That is the only thing that has changed about this popular lunch spot... almost. They have also paired down their ice cream flavors.

The reason for this change is because their biggest business is lunch, not ice cream. The same Burgers, soups, and salads will still be at the same location, now called The Lunch Box.

My Absolutely Favorite Lawrenceville Restaurant is:

O'Charleys service is great, and the food is yummy. We are bonkers for the rolls, and on Tuesdays, kids eat free. Of course my kids have outgrown this in recent years, but it was great while it lasted. This Restaurant is located on Lawrenceville Suwanee Road across the street from Target.

Want Italian for Dinner?

For the best in chain-restaurant Italian in Lawrenceville, check out Johnny Carino's Country Italian, at 1802 North Brown Rd Nw, Lawrenceville, GA 30043 (just outside Discover Mills. I can't say enough about the garlic and oil. The rest of the food choices are pretty good too.

If you are looking for New York Style Pizza, may I suggest Finis Italian Restaurant at 1032 Old Peachtree Roadd (in the Publix Plaza). The owner from my hometown in NY where I ate his fathers pizza as a child.

For a family atmosphere, more authentic experience, may I suggest Sophia's Valentino Family restaurant at 555 Progress Center Ave Lawrenceville GA 30043 (off 316) It costs a little more, but its worth it.

Chinese Anyone?

My family loves Chinese food, and we have three major places we like to eat or get take out.

Jade Dragon Wok Out our first love. This is definately a takout place and great to grab lunch from. The food is a bit on the sweet side, but that is why we love it.
It is located at 1414 Lawrenceville Suwanee Rd and the number is 770-339-1101.

For fine dining, we love Big Joy II. I think he service is the best part of the experience. We always get quick and friendly service and are never left wanting for anything. Oh, and the food is delicious too. If you like Authentic or spicy Chinese food you should go here.

My newest find, China Gate Restaurant is a guilty pleasure! The service is good, with the servers being a little chatty, but the food is BETTER! My friends at the two other places may miss me.
