Yesterday evening, not too far from my home, traffic was cut off because of a standoff on Sever Road where a criminal ran into a house in the Steeplechase/ Jefferson Station subdivision. Jackson Elementary was locked down, and we could not drive through. This could happen to you. Be sure to lock your doors even if you are at home. You don't want company you didn't invite.

Man who posed as cop released on bail

A local man was arrested for posing as a cop and was released on bail. His bond was $11,200.00. Please see the full story and learn his face. I am personally disturbed that his bond was so low. This seems like a dangerous person to me.

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga -- Gwinnett County police arrested a man they said had been posing as a Georgia State Patrol officer.

Moses Roscoe Eaddy, 37, of Duluth, was charged with one felony count of impersonating a police officer. He was arrested July 18 and released from jail the same day on $11,200 bond.

Security officer working at Idlewylde apartments in Duluth told police a man had been identifying himself as a State Patrol officer.

Where there's Guns, there's crime

Is it just me or has anyone noticed an increase in Gun activity since the new GA gun law went into effect?

Atlanta, GA -- A new Georgia law will allow passengers to pack pistols riding public transportation.

The law also allows Georgians with gun permits to bring their firearms into restaurants that serve alcohol, and into state parks.

The problem I have with the new freedom to carry guns is that people up to no good are also more free to carry guns as they won't stand out as doing something illegal. It certainly makes me want to keep me and mine home more.

Here is one of the most recent stories in our immediate area.

"There was new information Friday in the case of a man who was shot outside of a Wal-Mart in Gwinnett County. Lawrenceville police said that they caught two of the men involved in the shooting and are now looking for a third..."We believe he's dangerous," said Major King. He went on to say, "Evidently he doesn't care much for other people's lives and is willing to take someone's life just for a few dollars."

Anyone care to comment on this?

Waffle House Robberies

I realize this may sound sacrilegious to people in GA but in the 8 years that I have lived here, I have never set foot inside of a waffle house. Why? Because it seems that waffle house is a regular target for robbers. I don't want to be there when it happens.

Investigators also believe that the suspect may be responsible for additional armed robberies outside the county.

Man led 'life improvement' seminars; police think there might be more victims."

"Many of Baffa's patients were referred to him by licensed psychotherapists, Spellman said. Baffa is "not a licensed therapist of any sort," Spellman said, though police said he represented himself to patients as a psychotherapist."

The man's name is Carmine Edmund Baffa and he is 52.

Rumors of school shooting empties classrooms at Central Gwinnett High

Almost half the students at Central Gwinnett High were absent Monday because of rumors that a shooting would take place on the Lawrenceville campus.

Gwinnett school police investigated the rumors with the Lawrenceville Police Department, but found no evidence to substantiate the threat, district spokeswoman Sloan Roach said.

Employee Enters Gwinnett Courthouse with Gun

Employee claims she was unaware that a gun was in her handbag when she showed up for work at the Gwinnett County Courthouse. The gun was discovered in the X-ray machine. Even more scary than that is the fact that the gun wasn't noticed until the employee had left the screening area.

Deputies at the employee-only line of the security station saw the gun on the X-ray machine and stopped the belt to examine the bag.

After checking the bag on the belt, deputies realized that the bag containing the gun had already passed through the machine and been picked up, Bourbonnais said.

"She came through the employee line and they've been trying to process that line pretty fast," Bourbonnais said.

Deputies used surveillance camera footage to identify and track down the woman, but it took them several hours. By that time, the employee had already realized her mistake and returned the gun to her car, Bourbonnais said.

"He Was Naked.... It Was Horrible"

Ok... this is not funny... seriously not funny.

But before I start, I have to tell you a related story. The year was 1987 and I just just moved away to college from the Greater NY area to upstate NY. One evening my roommate (from New Jersey) and I spent a good hour laughing about a news story one evening. You see they were reporting on a flasher. We tried to imagine how long it would take to report on all of the flashings in our hometown... so I hope you understand my irreverence. Here's the story.

Library Board Meeting Re: computer Porn

I got the following in an email:

Please help us protect Gwinnett's children- your children.

Please come and support those who will be speaking to the Library Board. We will be asking them to:
1. Change their policies to further filter known sites that are sexually explicit /pornographic,
2. Intervene and stop patrons who are veiwing sexually explicit material especially if it is being done by minors or in the presence of minors, (required by House Bill 1055 -prevention of minors to harmful material) Gwinnett County is the ony one of 54 library systems surveyed that has a policy preventing intervention- Other libraries intervene, suspend library privledges and prosecute if appropriate.
3. Inform parents of the risks of exposure to sexually explicit/pornographic material while visiting the library. Require parents to give written consent for their minor to use the internet in addition to the other areas a parent has to give permission for the minor child currently when requesting a library card. (Almost 70% of the libraries in Ga. require written consent and many require the parent to sit with their minor child when they use the internet)

There is another issue at Gwinnett's Libraries that bothers me.
My daughter wanted to read the Parent Trap, so she reserved it. We knew there were several versions of this book, but we thought they were all kids books.
What my 11 year old received was a Silhouette Romance book. I brought it back and the librarian said it was up to me to monitor what she got as they did not have a teen or below category If I wanted to restrict what she could reserve, would have to restrict her to children's books only.... she reads way above this level. There is a parent advisory category, but it is very small and does not include romance books.

Be very careful on Route 120

Be very careful on route 120 between Riverside and Sugarloaf. The construction is causing quite a bit of confusion especially at night when the people directing traffic have gone home. The big orange barrells don't help much either. I just turned down Lebanon (one of the side streets) to find I was on the wrong side of the street for about 500 feet with no way of correcting the error.

ATM crooks hit Lawrenceville WAMU

Beware when you use your ATM cards. A Skimmer is being used to steal bank card information, most recently from the WAMU on Collins Hill Road. This happened to me recently at a gas station. Since then, every time I use my atm card, I examine the card reader, and even yank on it to make sure it is the real thing.
