MARTA officials hosted their second public talk in Lawrenceville's Georgia Gwinnett College on Tuesday evening, hoping to drum up support for expanding the rail line into Gwinnett County.
About 50 people attended the forum, which lead up to a July 15 ballot question for Gwinnett residents on whether they would support a 1-cent sales tax to extend MARTA into Gwinnett. The ballot results are non-binding and will be used by politicians to shape public policy.
The proposed expansion includes four new rail stations at Norcross, Jimmy Carter, Indian Trail and Gwinnett Place mall. Read more
Personally, I feel that having Marta come to Gwinnett is a good idea. I almost even wish they would plan a stop at Discover Mills, closer to my home... of course, I have no idea on what that would mean to neighborhoods that are in the way. If it rips people from thier homes, I would have a problem with it.
My problem is with raising taxes to pay for it. Here's the thing. If we already have to pay for Marta, why should we have to pay to exand it? Plus, I don't feel that people who don't want to use the system should have to pay for it too.
That's my opinon. What's yours?
