Autism Society of America-Greater Georgia Chapter and SPECTRUM Support Groups are excited to announce Georgia Race for Autism and Family Fun Day sponsored by Blimpie, DigitalChalk, Imaginations at Play, KidStuff, Kohls and Social Skills Program Consultants.
The Georgia Race for Autism and Family Fun Day includes USATF certified 5k and 10k courses with chip timing as well as a 1 mile fun run and tot trot. The 5k and 10k races will start at 8:00am with the start and finish at Gwinnett County Fairground. The Georgia Race for Autism and Family Fun Day encourages both experienced athletes and novice runners and walkers to participate in the event. Race registration for individuals and fundraising teams, as well as course maps and complete event information can be accessed at www.georgiaraceforautism.com.
Late registration and race packet pickup will be at the Entertainment Building located at the fairground on Friday, October 1 from 2:00pm to 6:00pm and on Saturday (race day), October 2, 6:30am to 7:30am.
Family Fun Day will run from 9:00am until 2:00pm providing food and drinks, vendors, sensory friendly activities, inflatables, pony rides, a petting zoo. Gwinnett County School Team Mascots and Gwinnett County High School cheerleaders as well as Chick-fil-A's famous EAT MOR CHIKIN cow will be at the race cheering for their favorite teachers and taking pictures with their friends during the day.
Gwinnett County School teachers, businesses and private organizations have formed fundraising teams and are receiving online donations on their team pages which are accessed through the Georgia Race for Autism website.
Gwinnett County has one of the highest rates of autism in Georgia. According to the Center for Disease Control, 1 in 110 individuals is diagnosed with autism, making it more common than pediatric cancer, diabetes, and AIDS combined. 9 out of 10 autistic children are raised in a single parent home.
All proceeds of Georgia Race for Autism will go to Autism Society of America -Greater Georgia Chapter and SPECTRUM Support Groups to help support their efforts to improve the lives of those in the Georgia community affected by autism.

About SPECTRUM Autism Support Group
SPECTRUM Autism Support Group (SPECTRUM) was established in the fall of 1998 for families, friends and teachers of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) within Gwinnett County, Georgia and the surrounding areas. It is a parent operated group whose mission is to provide support, education and resources encompassing the entire spectrum of ASD for children and adults. SPECTRUM hosts free monthly meetings the first Thursday of each month featuring guest speakers who share their knowledge and expertise regarding Autism Spectrum Disorders. Free childcare is offered with RSVP and is staffed by Autism professionals from the Gwinnett County Public School system (among other counties) and community volunteers.
